Power System Operations
Power Systems Operations for Engineers
Course Length: 5 DaysCourse Cost: $2,500
Explores the inter-dependency of the operation, maintenance, and engineering of the electric power system through hands-on operation of the EPTC's MPS. Presentations on generating, transmission equipment and protection, governor response, and voltage regulating equipment. Power system dynamics are reinforced by problem solving exercises in the Miniature Power System.

Overview of Electric Power Systems
Course Length: 3 DaysCourse Cost: $1,875
Provides a basic overview of electricity and how the electrical power system works. The implications of having an inter-connected nation-wide power system are presented through demonstrations of key concepts in the EPTC’s Miniature Power System.

Power Plant Operations
Course Length: 8 DaysCourse Cost: $5,000
Provides in-depth knowledge of power plant operations. Generating equipment and its protection, governor response, and voltage regulating equipment are examined. Concepts including power system dynamics are reinforced by problem solving exercises in the EPTC’s Miniature Power System.

Fundamentals of Power Systems Operations
Course Length: 4 DaysCourse Cost: $2,500
This course is a follow up to the Overview of Electric Power Systems and provides a deeper understanding of the generation and transmission of electrical power. Students are provided an up-close view of the material by touring a dispatch center and a high-voltage substation.

Power System Operations for Maintenance Personnel
Course Length: 4 DaysCourse Cost: $2,500
Explores the inter-dependency of the operation and maintenance of the electric power system through hands-on operation of the EPTC's Dispatch Training Simulator and the Miniature Power System.

Specialty Courses
Real-time Operations and Reliability Readiness CEH Icon
Course Length: 4 DaysCourse Cost: $2,500
Provides system operators with system simulations and drills, along with general study of the principles of interconnected system operations that relate to recognizing and responding to system emergencies. 29.5 CEHs awarded for successful completion (OPS Topics: 29.5; Standards: 1.0; Simulation: 18.5; EOP: 18.5).

Standards Application to Disturbance Analysis CEH Icon
Course Length: 3 DaysCourse Cost: $995
Students in this course will study selected NERC Standards and examine whether the proper application of said Standards could have avoided or mitigated Disturbances including the 2003 Eastern Interconnection Disturbance and the 2011 Arizona – Southern California Outage (San Diego Blackout). 24 CEs awarded for successful completion (OPS Topics: 24; Standards 24).

Maximum Simulation CEH Icon
Course Length: 3 DaysCourse Cost: $1,875
This course is designed to provide system operators, operation and maintenance personnel with in-depth knowledge of interconnected system operations, including: BES voltage/var control; identification of system problems and determining mitigation plans; and, utilizing effective communication. The course will consist entirely of BES simulation using the EPTC’s Miniature Power System. Students must have attended either the Power Plant Operations or Real-time Operations and Reliability Readiness courses. 24 CE credits awarded for successful completion. (OPS Topics: 24; Simulation: 24; EOP 24)

Relaying for Operations Personnel CEH Icon
